Younis best choice to lead Pakistan – Zaheer Abbas

Younis Khan makes changes to his field, Pakistan v New Zealand, 2nd ODI, Abu Dhabi, November 6, 2009Former Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas has urged the PCB to reappoint Younis Khan as captain to lead the side out of its current crisis. Pakistan’s recent tour of England was riven by controversy, with a News of the World expose alleging that seamers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, and Test captain Salman Butt, had conspired to bowl no-balls on demand. The ICC has provisionally suspended the trio, leaving Pakistan without a Test captain.

“With the future of Salman Butt as captain and player now uncertain because of the spot-fixing scandal, the best choice to lead Pakistan is Younis Khan,” Abbas told PTI. “The board should not waste any more time in appointing Younis as the Test team captain because he is the ideal man to lead the team after the controversial tour to England.”

Younis has led Pakistan before, most notably to victory in the 2009 World Twenty20 and the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy the same year. However, he stepped down before the tours of New Zealand and Australia, over differences with team-mates. He was later banned as a part of the massive disciplinary action undertaken by the PCB in March 2010, following the side’s disastrous, winless tour of Australia.Though his ban was overturned on appeal, the PCB did not give him clearance for selection, on grounds of having made “inappropriate comments” following the penalty.

“Whatever problem there is between Younis and the board it needs to be sorted out quickly,” Abbas said. “Younis must meet with the board Chairman and also make himself available for Pakistan again … The forthcoming series [against South Africa in UAE] is going to be a tough task and the board must have the best man leading the Test team.”

“Pakistan will require his experience in the World Cup. The tournament is not far away and I don’t think we now have time or room for experimenting with new players,” Abbas said.

Khalid Shameem Wynne new CJCSC

Following his promotion as a 4-star general, Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Khalid Shamim Wyne was appointed Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) on Tuesday. Officially, it is said that on the advice of the prime minister, President Asif Ali Zardari promoted Lt Gen Khalid Shamim Wyne as 4-star general and appointed him as Chairman JCSC.
File:Khalid Wynne.JPG
“Brilliant officer,” said one of General Wyne’s colleagues, who lauded the decision of the president and the prime minister to appoint him as the Chairman JCSC. Some circles do not rule out that Monday’s troika meeting at the Presidency discussed the matter and the final decision was taken after taking the input of Army Chief General Kayani on the matter.

General Wyne (Infantry) in his capacity as CGS is one of the closet top-ranked soldiers to COAS General Kayani, whose tenure as Army Chief has already been extended for another full term of three years beyond November 28 this year.

Senior most on the seniority list of 3-star general, General Wyne will be succeeding outgoing Chairman JCSC General Tariq Majeed, who is going to retire after a long illustrious military career on October 6 this year.

Wyne, whose father Shamim Wyne retired from Army as Lieutenant Colonel, belongs to 20-Punjab Regiment. He hails from soldier producing Sialkot, as one of his younger brothers Aamir Shamm Wyne left Army as captain to join police and now serving as SSP.

General Wyne has done both German and Pakistani Staff Colleges. He commanded Siachen Brigade-323 (popularly known as Kargil Brigade) and held the position of Commandant Infantry School as Major General. He was GOC in Quetta and also served as Deputy Chief of General Staff before his promotion as 3-star Lieutenant General and served as Commander Southern Command, Quetta.

It was foregone conclusion that a senior Army officer would succeed General Tariq Majeed as Chairman JCSC, and there stand no chance for Naval or Air Force officer to get this appointment because of multiple inherent reasons and working of the office of Chairman JCSC.

Given the value-added responsibilities, and working of the office of the Chairman JCSC, it deals with all the sensitive issues including conventional and non-conventional matters and is virtually considered in charge of strategic assets of the country. Some reshuffling and new appointments are also expected in the Army at the level of corps commanders and PSOs in coming days.

Ti Jian Zi – The Ancient Art of Shuttlecock Kicking

One of the most popular traditional Chinese arts, Ti Jian Zi, known in the western world as shuttlecock kicking, requires a great deal of skill and practice.

The game of shuttlecock kicking is believed to have been invented sometime during the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) and gradually increased in popularity,  to a point where shops that specialized in the making of shuttlecocks began appearing all over China. The art of shuttlecock kicking reached its climax during the Qing Dynasty, when competitions were held between masters of the game from all over the country.

he shuttlecock is basically just a coin wrapped in cloth, with a punch of feather inserted through a hole. The feathers slow the coin down as it descends. There are a variety of shuttlecock kicking techniques and styles, but they all aim to keep the shuttlecock in the air, for as long as possible.

Shuttlecock kicking requires players to kick the shuttlecock with their inner ankle, either by themselves, or to other players. While beginners struggle to even keep the damn thing in the air, some masters reach an amazing level of skill that allows them to execute unbelievable moves.

Since shuttlecock keepie-ups only requires a shuttlecock and a small area to practice, it remains one of the most popular kids games, but it’s also practiced by adults and senior citizens. It’s not only great fun, but also provides good exercise.

A national shuttlecock tournament has been held in China, every year since 1987, and the ancient art has been growing in popularity outside the country’s borders.

Twinkle Dwivedi – The Girl Who Cries Blood

For the last three years, doctors have been trying to figure out what makes Twinkle Dwivedi‘s body ooze blood through her eyes, feet and even her head, but she remains a medical mystery.

When Twinkle’s case first appeared in the international media, many hurried to call her a fake, but after countless tests and procedures, including blood transfusions, doctors are still baffled by her strange bleeding. A group of medical specialists, led by dr. George Buchanan, recently traveled to North India to investigate the 14-year-old Twinkle, but all they have been able to say was that “she really suffers from a condition we have never seen before.”

The young teen remembers her disorder first appeared when she was just 11, and her classmates started mocking her and calling her disgusting. Although her bleeding didn’t hurt at all, she felt scared and alone, because no one would come near her. At first she would cry when she saw her clothes soaked with blood, but now she just keeps quiet, and prays she will eventually get better.

Despite her parents efforts, who took her to see the best doctors, Twinkle Dwivedi still bleeds from her eyes and pores, up to 14 times a day.
